Old building from Bromwich Road

History

The church originally came into being in 1907 after a handful of locals desired to set up a local work in Woodseats. Meetings were initially held in cottages, firstly in a cottage on Aisthorpe Road and later on in Nettleham Road.

After some time, the congregation grew and moved to the present site on the corner of Marshall Road and Bromwich Road.

The first building on the site was known as the ‘Tin Tabernacle’ and had been transported from the Bolsterstone dams where it had been used as a meeting place for prayer by the workmen.

During the war years, the church doubled as a day school alongside being a place of worship.

In the early 1970s it became clear that the building was in need of extensive repairs; the walls were leaving the ceiling and there were concerns about singing inside the church building. It was clear a new building would be required.

In 1976, the current church building was completed; during the three months without premises, Woodseats Methodist church kindly made one of their rooms available for services.

The church held its centenary in 2007. We are grateful to the Lord for His provision for His people here, and continue to look to Him for help, wisdom and provision.
