Who we are
Woodseats Evangelical Church is a Christ centred, Bible believing body of believers brought together by God to worship Him, encourage one another in the faith and be built up in our understanding through the preaching of the word. We also seek to proclaim Christ and His gospel (literally ‘Good News’) of salvation, through His redemptive work on the cross, in the Woodseats district.
You are most welcome to join us at our services regardless of your age, background or knowledge in the Christian faith.
Meetings
‘And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching’. - Hebrews 10:24-25
As a church, we meet for Sunday worship at 10:45 AM and 6:30 PM, and gather for prayer at 6:00 PM before the evening service. During the week, we meet for prayer & Bible study at 7:30 PM on Thursdays.
In addition to our regular weekly services, we host a monthly Bible Ministry Meeting on the first Saturday of each month in Spring (March - June) and Autumn (September - December).
We use the New King James Version (NKJV) for our church Bible.
Our services are of a traditional form, with preaching, singing of hymns and prayer led by the speaker. We usually sing accompanied by piano (occasionally organ) with hymns from the new edition of Christian Hymns, supplemented by select hymns from a few other hymn books.
Church Leadership
Mr. Chris Smith is the current acting pastor at the church. He and his family joined the church in 2008, where he and his wife Hilary helped the previous pastor Rev. Ralph Marshall and his wife Audrey in the running of the church. Following Rev. Ralph Marshall’s death in 2015, Chris became acting pastor, taking up a leadership role in the church full time.
Woodseats Evangelical Church is a member of the Wesleyan Reform Union (Sheffield Circuit), although the church retains independence in all matters of doctrine and local church governance.
